Travel to Cancale, known as the “Oyster Capital” of France. Historical records show that the oysters enjoyed by King Louis XIV were transported from Cancale all the way to the Palace of Versailles. After several centuries, Cancale remains one of France’s leading oyster-farming ports, producing thousands of tons of both cupped and flat oysters every year. Renowned for their firm texture and rich flavor, these oysters have become a true local specialty. Strolling through the town, visitors will discover numerous seafood restaurants offering excellent value, as well as lively seafood markets with an impressive selection of fresh products. A dozen large fresh oysters can cost as little as six or seven euros, making Cancale a paradise for seafood lovers.
